First up you will need to download the following programs:

• DVDVideosoft
• Jasc Animation Shop

once you have those programs you’re raring and ready to go.

1.  First things first you need to open up DVDVideosoft. It will look like this.
   
   click the yellow panel and you will get a range of options come up. the one you want to click is the free youtube download.
2. once this has been clicked get the URL of the video from youtube that you wish to gif. copy it and click paste 
    
   do not click or change anything else. click download and wait for it to finish.
3. Next thing you need to do is get the main DVDVideosoft menu back up and this time click the green panel. then like before you will have a selection of options. you need to click on the free video to JPG converter. 
4. This bit is a little strange. 
    
   You need to find the video you downloaded. It should be in a folder in my documents called DVDVideosoft. so click browse, find your video then set it to every frame. select where the output will lead then click extract and wait for it to finish.
5. ok so now you have your frames. cool. this bit is important. as you can see the first frame of the video is first in the folder. you are going to need to reverse the order so the last frame comes first, otherwise your gifs will play in reverse. to do this click on ‘name’ on the bar at the top of the folder. (i use this from vista and unfortunately i dont know how to do it on another OS.)
   
6. ok once you’ve flipped your frames round you need to find the part you want to gif. usually theres over 1000 frames depending on the length of the video. anyway. find the bit you want and select all the frames. 25 frames is usually enough, anymore and the gif will be too big. select the frames and click copy.
7.  Open up the Jasc Animation Shop and paste them into there. it should look like this
    
8. ok so you now almost have your gif. there are a few tweaks. go to the menu bar and click animation. and then resize animation. follow this specifically otherwise the gif wont work.
   where it says percentage of original, change it to 50x50 and click ok
    
9. the gif should have shrunk. then you can save it. HOWEVER. when you save it you see this.
    
   Dont touch anything, just click next. 
10. Keep clicking next until you get to this screen.
     
    IF THE NUMBER IN THE RED BOX IS OVER 500KB THE GIF WONT WORK. GO BACK AND DELETE SOME FRAMES OR MAKE IT SMALLER. 
    If its under 500KB you just made a gif that is tumblr friendly :3
